Overview

This course shapes what you should be learning from your years at university through your first two years at work, so you go straight to the answer instead of guessing your way there, losing time and money, sometimes ending up with a career that stalls.

What you can do afterwards

  • Understand the path you need to be on, on your own, from now until you apply for a job.
  • Build a plan of your own and hold yourself to that path.
  • Have a CV a recruiter reads in ten seconds and thinks this might be the candidate I am looking for.
  • Walk into the interview with your nerves already worn down, after many mock rounds with someone who has interviewed hundreds of candidates.

Included in the course

  • One group session of five (60 minutes) on the big picture: how outsourcing companies actually run projects, the kind of people they need, and the career paths that really exist.
  • One group session of five (60 minutes) on building your own roadmap, writing a CV, and everything you have to prepare before you talk to a recruiter.
  • Optional: one session one to one (30 minutes) reviewing your personal plan, whether it is realistic and what needs work, plus your career path.
  • Optional: one session one to one (60 minutes) of CV review and a mock interview, with no limit on how many rounds. Take it right away or after you have learned more. Any time.
  • Mentoring for life. Whenever you need a second opinion on a decision that matters, a job offer you are unsure about, whether to move on, a disagreement with a senior over a call on the project, or simply someone to talk to, I am there to listen.

What we cover

  1. Session 1

How are companies actually running projects?

Look at real demand first, then you know what to learn

    • The path of an ordinary project, from the client's first message through analysis, build, handover and operation.
    • AI and how it is reshaping the whole industry, from someone running projects that use AI across the entire process.
    • What companies used to ask of a candidate, and what they ask now.
    • The law on probation and internships, and what a fresher actually costs a company. Why freshers cannot find work even though they are cheap.
    • The career paths that exist and what each position pays today.
    • Where the wave of layoffs stands across the industry.
  2. Session 2

What school teaches you VS what you actually have to prepare

Use the most valuable years you have to pull ahead of everyone in your cohort

    • What universities teach and what they are aiming at, and what you have to prepare on top of it to compete.
    • How to plan your own path the way a project manager plans a project.
    • How to write a CV that lands in the first three seconds.
    • What to do before, during and after an interview to maximise both your odds and your offer.
  3. Session 3

    Reviewing your personal plan

A plan that is not good enough is a plan for failing

    • Is the plan realistic?
    • How do you track it?
    • What do you do when you fall behind it?
    • What needs to improve.
    • A closer look at your career path and whatever you are still unsure about.
  4. Session 4

    CV review

One more pass over the CV to maximise your odds of being called in

    • Feedback on the structure and layout of the CV.
    • Feedback on the quality of what is in it.
    • An interview run like the real thing. Result and feedback on the spot, right after.

What people I have led say

Read what the people who have worked with me, and the teams I have led, say about the working environment I build. It is the clearest way to see what I can bring to you.

It was a real pleasure working with everyone. The team is both sharp and warm, I learned a lot and I am leaving with good memories. Thank you to Chien, a project manager with real fire in him, who always found the words that got a release over the deadline.

Questions people ask

I am only in my first, second or third year. Is this too early, and will it be out of date in two or three years?

Most of what is here held true in the past and still holds now. Technology changes, but the way you think about finding work does not go out of date. New trends get shared in the Zalo group as they come up.

Do I need to code, or reach a certain level, to follow along?

Not at all. But if you already know a little programming, you will get more out of what I say.

What does mentoring for life mean?

When the course ends you can still message me, about a job offer you are unsure of, whether to move on, a disagreement with a senior over a call on the project, or simply because you want to talk. I am there to listen.

What if I miss a session?

You take it again with another group. The sessions are fairly independent, except that session two sets up sessions three and four, so if you miss session two, push those back. Sessions three and four are yours alone, so you can move them freely.

If I am not happy with the course, can I have my money back?

Yes, all of it, from after the first session until 30 days after the last one. I will not even ask you much about why 😁

I paid but have not started yet. Can I have my money back?

Yes, all of it 😁

A refund within 30 days

For 30 days from the day you sign up, if you want to stop, I return the full fee. No reason asked, no explaining needed. Message me at the email or number on the contact page and the transfer goes out within five working days.

After 30 days there is no refund, because by then most of the material has been covered. If something in your life forces you to stop, tell me and I will hold your place in a later class rather than let it go to waste.
